News & Reviews

Review - 21 Sep 2006, Green Room website - It was the sort of slow night where most of the audience comprised various band members and the reviewer. I played pool with members of the Variodivers and the Floors as Team Truckstar kicked off. The sound was rock with a country undertone. Picture yourself zapping down a rural highway with foot tappin’ rock on the radio. ‘In the Fight’ and ‘No Good for You’ were highlights. However, the first half of the set was the best with the remainder sounding a bit sameish due to the unvaried delivery. Reviewer, Rory McCartney.

News - 24 Mar 2006 - After a length break for travelling and song writing Team Truckstar returned to the live scene, playing the Pot Belly with special guests The Lavans and Australian Kingswood Factory. Tonight's gig also saw Hoges filling Scotty's big bass shoes for the night

News - 21 Oct 2005 - Team Truckstar returned to the Green Room Canberra for a support gig with Starky and Dappled Cities Fly. The boys made it on stage at around 9pm and performed a 40 minute set to a good crowd (special thanks Lee and Zoe; Timmy, Leah and Justine for making it to another gig). Thanks again to Gaz and Laura for the sound - no wonder this place was voted best live venue in Canberra. Also, for those asking about the EP, it is happening, but just a little slower than we thought.

Press - Canberra Times 24 June 2005 - 'Winning Team' by Daniel Craddock [opens in new window]

News - 17 June 2005 - ANU Bar + Beer + Bands - it's simple formula - but, afterall, we're simple trucking folk. The night kicked off with The Ashbury's and then Foot to the Floor. Team Truckstar arrived on stage about 11pm and belted out a 45 minute set for the good size ANU crowd. Thanks to Sharon S. for organising the gig, Daimo for the sound and of course Tony K. for the venue. Oh, and Gil Truckstar has this message for all you kids out there: '...tell them that Gil Truckstar plays bass like a run away Kenworth anything that gets in his way will be destroyed!!!!! YEAH!!!' You've been warned.

Review - 1 June 2005, BMA Magazine - Thirsty Merc/The Dawn Collective/Team Truckstar @ ANU Bar May 13. Team Truckstar kicked off proceedings and played a rather neat little set to a very small crowd, which was a pity. It was the first I’d seen of them and they actually appeared a bit nervous initially but once they got into the swing of things, they rocked their little part of the stage! People only just started drifting in as they were wrapping their stuff up but given the chance I’m sure they’d have received an excellent reception.

News - 13 May 2005 - Tonight was a big gig for the boys...supporting Thirsty Merc at the ANU, Canberra. An unbelievable crowd started pouring through the doors at 8pm, just in time to see and hear Team Truckstar in action. Despite having to play a shortened set to accommodate the late inclusion of Bakeliteage to the bill, and a record smashing string breaking effort from Jack - 3 guitars in 8 songs...it was Friday the 13th...spooky - the sound was good, the vibe was fine, and the songs were at their catchiest. In particular, the revamped version of 'Everything You Own (Xmas)' was particularly well received and is a big contender for the shortlist of songs for the EP. A big thanks to the growing number of fans who came along, Scotty M (the other one) for his support, Tony at the ANU, and Gabriel (TM) for making the boys feel welcome. Catch you soon.

News - 19 Mar 2005 - IndyFest 05. The boys performed seven songs during a 25 minute set from 9.15pm on the Refectory stage at the ANU. It was TTs first opportunity to play a few of their new songs currently being recorded for their EP. Other bands playing IndyFest 05 included The Basics from Melbourne, The Chuffs (formerly Yob) from Canberra, and Genevieve Maynard from Sydney. Once again a huge thanks to all who came to listen and also to Timmy S for recording some great new footage.

News - 10 Dec 2004 - Bikes and bands is cancelled. Bit too wet.

News - 9 Dec 2004 - Had a great night playing our first gig at the Green Room Canberra supporting Intercooler and Love Outside Andromeda. The place was packed and the sound was incredible. Thanks to everyone who came down to listen and a big thanks to Timmy S for doing the video camera thing.

News - 24 Sep 2004 - The "Caught in the Act" CD Launch at the Holy Grail, Canberra City. Team Truckstar appear on stage at 10.30 for a 30 minute set. Despite a few technical hitches at the start, ie, Jack's guitar amp not working, and probably the worst front of house mix this town has heard, the boys rise above it - after all they are professional - and put on a good show for the 100 or so crowd. Thanks to Stevie G who took some good photos which you can see on the Pictures page.

Review - 9 Sep 2004, Just Bands - Team Truckstar, In the Fight. This would have to be most commercial, cross radio, sure fire hit on CITA 2004. This track should have been at number 1 on CITA04 BUT!!!!!!!!!……….It’s also one of the most badly mixed tracks on this years offering. The vocals are excellent, the song writing top notch, great melody. The Guitar and bass sound is terrible and the drums are beyond help. What ever these guys payed to crucify such a great song, they should ask for their money back plus interest. Guys, get yourself into a decent studio, and whoever was involved with twiddling the knobs, NEVER GO BACK!

Review - July 2004, Just Bands - Team Truckster, In the Fight.
Ive never heard of these guys and I dont know if I like it or not. Its interesting to say the least. Not the best recording but I like the song. It doesnt make me jump up and down but it doesnt make me angry.

News - 30 June 2004 - The "Caught in the Act" CD is released. This compilation features a number of unsigned Canberra bands and fans of the Truckstars will no doubt recognize track no.9 as the song they have already downloaded from this very website and may be quite aggrevied if that was the only reason they purchased the CD. Unless of course you wanted a CD copy of the song.

News - 8 May 2004 - Team Truckstar perform at the Pot Belly to an appreciative audience with The Golden Age.
