Once
again, that lonely truckstop, the portable diner of life, has destined
that four individuals should be thrust together for a purpose that can
only be explained by their love of the big rigs and alternative rock
music.
Jack, Joe, Jake and Gil Truckstar met late one night in a
forgotten truckstop on the dusty plains of outback New South Wales,
Australia, in a place where the wheatfields become a dustbowl and men
can haul a load for days without speaking to another soul.
Over a late night 'fry-up' it became clear that these four
lonely travellers could produce a brand of Rock music that combined a
love of a sweet melody with the driving rythmn of an 18-wheeler.
From time to time - who knows where and when, these four
truckers (or "Team Truckstars" as they have come to be known) come
together to combine their passion for Rock with their love of oversized
long haulage vehicles and associated appliances.
So, if you get the chance, why not come on join this convoy of
Rock sometime.
Jake
Truckstar
Jake Truckstar comes to us from parts unknown; records suggest
he was born on the road (or possibly near a road in a dumpster on some
discarded newspapers). All we do know for certain is that wherever that
place is there’s probably a lot of rockin’ going on.
Jake was first hypnotized by the never ending rhythm of a
Rock and Roll Trucker lifestyle as his Mamma hauled loads across the
country with little Jake tucked safely in the womb of that 8
– month pregnant lady. Jake quite literally grew up on the
road as his Mamma raised little Jake in the back of that cabin,
learning to hold the wheel while Mamma had a break. More importantly
for us he learnt how to pound out the groove that a well-tuned
18-wheeler puts out.
Jake met Gil Truckstar on a long forgotten highway, drawn
together in the perfect syncopation of a groove that just
won’t let you go. These boys have been coming together ever
since to pound out beautiful music that has its head in Trucking and
its heart in Rock ‘n Roll.
Joe
Truckstar
Described by friends as a loyal, caring, generous man, and by
the police as wanted for questioning, Joe Truckstar may be best
described as a riddle wrapped in an enigma.
With only a low-slung guitar to accompany him, Joe has
traversed this wide brown land many times in the biggest of big rigs
often not talking for weeks. When Joe really has something to say he
lets the sound of his guitar do the talking. This has proved a problem
in supermarkets and recently in the post office however up on stage
there is no miscommunication. The message is loud and clear!
The highway of rock has always produced mavericks –
men and women who live on the outside, who only follow their own rules.
Fortunately for us this one occasionally follows the rules of Rock and
Truckin’! (and even more occasionally the rules of the road).
Gil
Truckstar
Gil Truckstar started out playing bass guitar at the age of
nine right about the time he first started hitching rides across the
continent on the back of a B double long hauler, traveling the red eye
special, delivering lima beans to those who really needed them. To pass
the time Gil used to power up his bass and amp through the cigarette
lighter and play a tune or two to keep the driver awake. Unfortunately
bass guitar sucked the juice right out of those batteries in about 3
½ to 4 minutes which was bad news for those folk waiting on
those beans but good news for Rock and Roll fans everywhere as it honed
Gil’s ability to say what needed to be said on the bass
within the tight schedule of modern radio format requirements.
So by the age of 11 Gil was done with learnin’. He
was ready to haul a load and rock. And he has ever since. (Well, apart
from the bit about hauling a load, as he had to wait til he was 16 to
get his license).
Once Gil met Jake Truckstar the deal was done, he found
someone that complemented the bass to provide the rockingest little
backbeat to blow them all away.
Jack
Truckstar
Not much is known of this wandering minstrel of the long
haulage highway. Jack Truckstar is the poet of this motley group of
world weary Truckers. Jack has spent his share of time at lonely diners
and truckstops collecting the wit and wisdom of life on the road.
Jack started out hauling loads around the cities of Australia
til he began to yearn for the honesty and simplicity of the long
haulage routes across the continent. That’s where Jack began
to hone his craft as a songwriter, cataloguing the sights, the sounds
and the smells of life on the road.
Jack is never happier than when he is on a long haul with only
the open road and time on his hands ready to start composing.
The only thing that comes close is when Jack has the
opportunity to share his musings in that time-honored tradition of
wrapping some words in a thumping backbeat and setting it to a soaring
melody.
